Turf Grass was founded in 2001 by Bill Glisson in a 6 x 12 ft wooden
shack on Washington Road, across from Club Car at the old egg farm.
In the beginning, Blythe Horton manned the office while Bill Glisson
and Michael Crawford did installation jobs by day and worked the
sod farm at night. We really were a 24 hour a day operation then!

Our
"shack" was deemed a temporary structure by the county, so
we were forced to move it a couple of feet every six months. Bill and
Mike would get out there with the forklift and blocks and literally
pick our building up and move it so that we complied with the zoning
laws. It was quite a sight.

Turf Grass, LLC moved to Wheeler Road in 2003. First, we were in
a small red building, a larger shack really. Then we hit the big
time. We moved into a real building with a bathroom and everything,
which is where we currently reside. We have twelve (12) employees,
seven (7) tractors trailers, two (2) dump trucks, four (4) Princeton
all terrain forklifts, and one (1) tractor. |

Turf Grass carries twenty-four (24) varieties of sod, more than
any other in the CSRA. Our sod is "cut to order" to ensure
that it is as fresh as possible. Our orders come from professional
contractors and landscapers as well as the average homeowner. Once
the order is taken, we order it cut from any of our eleven (11)
farms. It is then quickly loaded onto out flatbed trucks and brought
to our Augusta location. From there, it is usually shipped out to
our various customers, or the customers pick it up. |
|
Either way, it has
to be moved very quickly, especially in the heat to ensure that the
sod remains as fresh as possible.
Somewhere
along the way, Bill decided to carry agriculture/landscaping rocks.
What started out as a pile of rocks in the driveway has become the largest
variety and selection of rock and stone in the CSRA. We carry over one
hundred varieties of stone and rock, including flagstone, thin stack,
thick stack, boulders, crab orchard, PA bluestone, tumble stone, pebbles,
pea gravel and everything in between.
In
the past few years we have expanded to include palm trees and the fertilizer
spikes, mulch, sand, gravel, pine straw, top soil and potting soil,
as well as a wide variety of pond supplies. We plan to continue our
expansion and dedication to our customer's needs into the coming years.
